    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

I'm very proud of this thread - and think that I've been doing my patriotic duty working on it - that the NYT has been serving the country by hosting it - and the lchic has been a very gracious Aussie for working on it so brilliantly, gracefully, and entertainingly.

I was very proud of the exchanges between almarst , lchic and me on July 4, 2001 - especially the postings keyed to Koko - and problems even a monkey should be able to see - and repost the July 4 2001 postings here.

"Both gisterme and I have agreed that "missile defense" -- even as a "potempkin village" never deployed, would be worthwhile if it decentered a previously frozen situation, and led to a workable , big reduction of world risks and military problems.

"What do people want? Or is the question too complex? . . . Maybe it just takes work to adequately define, and some balancing. http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6531.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6536.htm

"With the internet, and crosslinking, and hard work, there are technical arrangements, partly coming into focus here, that accomodate communication, including the expression of disagreements between staffs. http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6541.htm

http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6551.htm cites links to my relationship to Bill Casey available at http://www.mrshowalter.net/CaseyRel.html - and reasons why it was clear, by July 4, 2001 - that gisterme cared about this thread, and had studied it. http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6555.htm

Koko series:

" And Happy Birthday Koko with interspecies communication ... wonder what she makes of Missile Defence ! http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6557.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6567.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6577.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6586.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6596.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6606.htm http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md6000s/md6615.htm
