Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have

and from the beginning has discussed missile defense, and
nuclear weapons issues, in a broad format concerned with war
and peace.

ongoing discussion on this thread.
"Almarst . . . said something profound - 11 March, 2001:
" The goal is not to eliminate the
nuclear wearpons but to reduce if not possible to eliminate
entirely the cause and consequences of War."
To do that, we must have facts - so we can "connect the
dots" -- and we need some insights that are only now coming
into focus -- some "easy answers" that just don't work need to
be rethought.
Some of that rethinking is going on.

lchic's work ! - (search lchic ) - - . You'll find a
wealth of thoughtful, wide-ranging citations. I think she's
the most valuable mind I've ever encountered. Search lchic on
other NYT threads and on the Guardian Talk threads, too.
You'll be impressed. Lchic and I are partners on this thread -
and she is much the better half.

That work involved great contributions from "stand-ins" who
have taken the role of senior Russian and American officials -
- a role that has continued since May 12, 2001 http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/198

Many times, I'm proud to take the New York Times. These
last few days, especially proud.

A popular radio program that as translated to early TV was
"Your Hit Parade". This forum could be named "Robert
Showalter's Paranoia Parade". I've asked to see your license
to moderate this forum. Who at the NYTimes maade you the
Sheriff?
lchic, we all want peace but the question is at what cost?
You said that you feed/support Iraq's children. Good for you.
But is your support quelling the population who otherwise
might drive out Saddam and his synchophants? Since the Gulf
War he has built many Palaces and playgrounds for his cohorts.
Is that where he also hides his WMD program elements? I read
someplace that the Saudi Family is vacationing on the Costa
del Sol in Spain. They have a palace there that is a replica
of the US White House. About 3000 family and cohorts will
bring over $300 Million to the local economy up from $165
Million last year. Are these the leaders we desire? A 7th
Century Satrpy?
