    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

""The people in control of U.S. foreign policy ... "" (Alex above) ... sounds a good idea to engage the people via 'the parliament' in American foreign policy --- why not?

Good to see you on the board Showalter ... Mazza a while back was commending us all on the fine job we do on the MD board, Mazza's motto is 'Make love not war' he's an old hippy from way back. 'Make TEA not WAR' is a Wellington NZ anti-war slogan this weekend ... some of the hippies are winding down a little ;)

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Billions of dollars - and the lives (and integrity) of a great many excellent engineers - are being wasted on a program that can't possibly work - when the people and resources involved could be much better used. Anybody want to call me on anything about ABL that is technical - except to say - we have miracles - and you can't see them - because they are classified?

The basic physics isn't classified - nor reasonable basis for technical judgements. The United States military should be ashamed of this project. Even though it may have many technically interesting parts - the sum of those parts can't work.
