    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Think You Know All There is to Know About Iraq?

Think Again. http://www.geocities.com/iraqi_question

Enderever ...

Milosovich had the potential to engulf Europe in war. Thousands of Innocents died in the Balkans and all we can say is we are sorry we didn't intervene sooner, but the ugly reality is that there is no doubt millions would have died if we did nothing. There is no third alternative ... that is the truth that the so called peacemakers cannot see. 'Peacemakers' and appeasers should see that Iraq can either kill 1/3 of the world's population or we kill 10 or 20 thousand innocents in converting Iraq into another Japan or Germany.

The US has a history of propogating freedom in countries it invades. There are concerns about whether this will continue with so much oil at stake in Iraq. Fair enough but now is not the time to prejudge the US on that score. Even if the US fails to be their historically hornorable selves, no one can tell me that using an unreliable and dangerous PROXY like Saddam to stymie the US is smart. Concerns over US abuse of power has to be addressed after a successful transition of Iraq to a modern prosperous nation and Iraq is a nation in every way as capable of prosperity as Japan and Germany.

I remind all here that there IS NO THIRD ALTERNATIVE. We strike now or given 10 years we WILL be living with smallpox and other insidious disease and what is left of us will be pleading with Saddam for mercy.

We are all uncomfortable about designating 10 or 20000 innocent lives to save 2 or 3 billion. However just as a fox in a trap will chew off its leg to survive we too must determine which future we want... freedom or oblivion. The Fox was gutsy and wise enough to see there was no third way, why can't we?

The "gutsy and wise" fox chewed HIS OWN leg.

If you feel like that, I am not going to stop you.

Do you suggest sucrification of someone elses' children to buy the foolishly false "feel safe" feeling?

fredmoore - 07:19pm Feb 9, 2003 EST (# 8759 of 8764)

Almarst ....

We are one family of man ... loss of innocent people is as devastating to true souls as the loss of a limb.

I repeat ... there is no third way. We have just 2 dots to connect to from here ... freedom or oblivion. We have recorded enough history to know the right path to take given the set of circumstances (smallpox) we face.

All the foxes that assumed there was a third way now make great fur coats. It is not wise to be 'busy making other plans' when you are entrapped.

But what if its just about OIL after all? What if our government does not tell the truth? That should not be such a big surprise to anyone who knows just a bit of the history.

Powell’s evidence: Unbelievable and Incredible! Part of the evidence presented by Colin Powell to the UN Security Council as “hard facts” was based on a report copied from 1991 and whole texts lifted from magazines. - http://english.pravda.ru/main/2003/02/08/43172.html
