    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Mayor Bloomberg's administration is stonewalling "United For Peace" and he won't issue a permit for a demonstration against the attack on Iraq scheduled to take place on February 15th at the United Nations.

The Allow New Yorkers the Right to Say NO to War! Petition to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly and NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito was created by and written by Audrey Canady. The petition is hosted here at

http://www.petitiononline.com/FEB15/petition.html

as a public service.

Please sign your name to encourage Mayor Bloomberg to issue a permit allowing a peaceful march and demonstration on February 15, 2003.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

No media stands alone - all media respond, and must respond - to the balance of forces (including ideas and ideals) with which they are surrounded.

The things that would need to be done to take the standards of verification way up from where they are are technically fairly easy - with the internet, much higher logical standards are possible.

But, with the stakes as they are - it can only happen if leaders of nation states actually want it to happen.

If people from the UN Security Council wanted the body of assertions about fact set out on this thread checked - it would happen - and my guess is that journalists would be willing to help - even proud to help.

That sort of thing can't ever be expected without such high status and real support. There are too many ways, practical and psychological - to keep it from happening.

If people decided that, when it matters enough for plain reasons - checking was morally forcing - the world would change for the better.

When being right about facts is a matter of life and death - conventions, procedures, and real checking - according to reasonable standards - is a matter of life and death.

I'd add that the Bush administration - whatever one may think of them - is not denying that - though they are dominating the process more than some other leaders wish. Some other leaders could act to change that.

"Some other leaders could act to change that."

Robert,

You aren't that naive are you? Not many leaders are ready to sucrifice their nations economy, defences and their own well being to stand up against US which spreads around billins of $ and tons of treads in equal proportion.
