Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

DOCUMENTARY SERIES - PAKISTAN PICTURES - Power Dressing
This episode follows Amber Shamsi, a young woman journalist
for The Herald, the colour monthly magazine of a leading
English language newspaper in Pakistan, who is investigating a
new cultural phenomenon. Well-to-do middle class housewives,
used to dressing in a more Western style, are adopting the
practice of wearing the hijab, the Muslim headdress,
traditionally worn by the poor and ill-educated. Amber
interviews some new hijabis in order to write her piece. The
contrast between her lifestyle and theirs is very striking.
Even more of a contrast are the life choices of three models,
including supermodel Tanya Shafi, who are doing the exact
opposite – taking off their veils and much else besides to
earn a good living as Western-style models. (From the UK, in
English). G CC

In Yugoslavia we have seen the legitimization of
"humanitarian" bombing. Now US added the pre-emptive war to
the menue of international norms.

Yugoslavia: The end of an anachronism / Patrick Moore
The name "Yugoslavia" may not be much longer for this
world. Its disappearance is long overdue.
