    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

"...There you go Gisterme ... NYT sets out to 'control' poster thinking !..."

Not to "control" thinking, lchic. Just conspiracy theory and political statement posting. Are you bright enough to know the difference?

"...And for why?..."

Apparently not. Conspiracy theories are by definition unproved...otherwise they wouldn't be just theories. Of course huge volumes on memory space of forum servers can be wasted on such subjective mental meanderings...and make what should be useful forums unreadable to those interested in the forum topic.

Political statements are also entirely subjective and often amount to little more than nonsense. I doubt that the NYT intended for its forums to be used as banners for every crackpot politcal-sounding cause that any whacko can think of.

Off-topic posting renders what should be useful forums into massive wastes of time. Take the Missle Defense forum for example...

Ummm, lchic, you should consider your sources. It's Oprah that seems to have no understanding of foreign policy. She's not most Americans. She's tabloid material and any "surveys" she touts should be considered with a grain of salt...as most Americans undoubtedly do. You really don't know much about America do you, lchic?

I'll agree that most Americans are not foreign policy experts, but then neither are most Europeans or Australians are they? Of course not.

What's your point?

Pity the guys here, most often, fail to introduce 'content' into their posts ....

Oprah is a Journalist -- her team do 'research' ... from that research it was said -- by muslims ... that they (muslims) saw the mass of Americans as having NO understanding of American Foreign Policy ...

..... it's been said before

..... so why don't they?

Heh heh. You should talk about that, lchic! You forget to mention the lack of content from the gals! A simple ovesight no doubt, oh quoter of Oprah. :-)

Once again, I say, consider your sources.

And Oprah is not a journalist. She is a talk show host. In case you hadn't noticed, there is a difference.

Oprah holds the Bob_HOPE_HUMANITARIAN award ...

... 'but she's NOT a journalist' ....

... there's a 'difference' ...

Isn't the difference between a journalist and a talk show hostess that she has to know everything a journalists knows -- and then some!

nb Age 19 became a CBS news journalist
