    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

"...Neither Cooper's view nor mine are crazy - they are both "connectings of the dots" based on different assumtions and weightings of different kinds of evidence..."

Cooper is right, you are wrong. That's not a subjective statement, Robert, it's an objective one. Cooper is just much better at connecting dots than you are. He seems to have an ability to know the truth when he sees it. I respect him for that even though he and I may disagree about the need for missile defense.

That you persist in pursuing your fantasy that I'm some govenment figure or "team" or other entity is the part that seems crazy to me, Robert. I'm just an ordinary guy who knows what he's about. While your false presumptions are somewhat flattering, they are also tangible cause to reject any basis for assumption of quality in your judgement.

Those who have ears to hear and eyes to see have already heard and seen. Will is among them.

"Gisterme - trust you read my point on 'Standards'!"

I must have missed it. Care to restate?

"...Look at the Hollywood Trials of the Fifties --- how many artists, actors and screen writers had their careers 'altered' by being accused of 'nothing'..."

Americans are no less vulnerable to left or right-wing hysteria than anybody else. They do, however, learn from their mistakes. In the end, senator McCarthy got his.

"...Look at the guys who were shot at Kent University..."

That was also an incident that arose from unfortunate hysteria, stimulated by the left wing; yet, in the end those voices were still heard. Jane Fonda is a classic example. In my opinion she and her ilk extended the Cold War for a number of years and caused the spilling of a lot of blood that might not have otherwise been spilled.

"...Look at the recent films ... where the main players ... have NO input into their biography ... start with 'A beautiful Mind'!..."

Exploitation of American liberty by Hollywood folks only proves its existance. If they've done something illegal, then no doubt they'll be sued. After all, they're the ones with the deep pockets.

The need for INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS is clear.

The need to take down and keep down dangerous nuclear weapons is clear.

Presidents, Presidents Men, ALL --- are fallible!

The above explanation escapes logic

SPIDERS

The experiment - spinning webs in micro-gravity environment .... wonder if any of them used their webs to parachute back down to earth?

"The above explanation escapes logic.."

That's not your strong suit, lchic, so don't worry yourself too much if you don't understand. You obviously don't understand much about America or what it's about.
