    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

From year of horse to year of goat (black sheep)

The Chinese year 4701 begins on February 1, 2003

The Chinese Lunar New Year is the longest chronological record in history, dating from 2600BC, when the Emperor Huang Ti introduced the first cycle of the zodiac. Like the Western calendar, The Chinese Lunar Calendar is a yearly one, with the start of the lunar year being based on the cycles of the moon. Therefore, because of this cyclical dating, the beginning of the year can fall anywhere between late January and the middle of February. This year it falls on February 12th. A complete cycle takes 60 years and is made up of five cycles of 12 years each. ...

Joran Times:

AMMAN (JT) — Information Minister Mohammad Adwan on Thursday categorically denied reports claiming that Jordan had agreed to a limited presence of US troops on its territory and granted rights of passage through its airspace in a possible war on Iraq. Adwan, who is also Minister of State for Political Affairs and the government spokesman, dismissed as “totally untrue and baseless” reports by international news agencies and a major US daily saying the Kingdom had agreed to allow the passage of US or allied planes through its airspace. The reports also said Amman had agreed to a limited US military presence to man air defences and launch search and rescue missions.

“Jordan's stand on this matter is firm and clear: Jordan has repeatedly stressed it will not participate in any war in any way, and it will not allow any party — neither the US nor Iraq — to use its soil and airspace,” Adwan was quoted as saying by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Petra also quoted Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Mohammad Batayneh as firmly denying claims aired by the Qatar-based satellite channel Al Jazeera according to which Iraq would be about to cut oil supplies to the Kingdom.

“This news is untrue, it is also denied by the Iraqi government,” Batayneh said. “The flow of oil from Iraq proceeds regularly,” he continued.

Iraqi Ambassador to Amman Sabah Yassin branded the report “part of the psychological war against Iraq, anti-Iraqi propaganda, and lies.”

Yassin also reiterated to Petra his government's assurances that it remains and will remain committed to supplying oil to “brotherly Jordan.”

Showalter it's 'cat on a hot tin roof' weather this way ... and the Chinese New Year is 'in' by almost an hour.

You've put up some data that begs interesting questions ...
