    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Cupid's Valentine War

Mr Powell, is expected to reveal further intelligence on the link at a climactic meeting of the security council. The meeting would be followed on February 14 by possibly the last assessment of Iraqi compliance.

Bush said that US intelligence had discovered extensive links between Iraq and terrorist organisations including al-Qaida.

Thinking About Iraq (3) By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

emo to: President Bush From: A pro-American Arab leader

Dear Mr. President, I and my colleagues from the Arab world and Turkey share your view that Saddam Hussein is lying, has not complied with the U.N. and must go. But is an American invasion the only way to remove him? Would you consider a deal for his exile?

I ask because we have been getting mixed signals. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/29/opinion/29FRIE.html

US President George W Bush says fresh evidence will be handed to the United Nations next week about Iraq's weapons program, vowing to lead a military campaign if the Iraqis do not disarm.

In his State of the Union address to Congress, Mr Bush says Baghdad has shown contempt

"" Mr. Aziz also said that Iraq's aggression will be directed at neighbouring Kuwait, where US troops are based. That has fuelled concerns that Kuwait will be targeted by chemical or biological weapons.

Bush - the poster boy for the Peter Principle

A third grader could have made a better speech than Smirk:

"Bush Delivers State of the War Speech. Was That Karl Rove in the Background Saying, "We're Going to Run This War Thing Out Until 2004. Who's the Next Target, Maybe a Blue State?" Did Bush Say, "The State of Our Confederacy, I Mean Union, is Strong"? "

Arab States - Repression - Cruelty - Inhumanity

How would a move on Iraq install 'democracy' over a culture that, for two thousand years, has been based on repression?

GU TALK rich1969 - 12:30pm Jan 29, 2003 GMT (#61 of 91)

I thought the hateful, narrow, nationalistic tone was awful (but not unexpected.)

I thought it was severely a-historical. This situation did not begin on September 11 2001, but can be dated back to anti-Soviet cold war black-ops (at least).

Congress reminded me of the Soviet Politburo. I lost count of the number of times they rose in applause. We witnessed a radical blurring of - if not an outright fusion of the Legislative and Executive branches of American government.

Jotavitch - 12:41pm Jan 29, 2003 GMT (#62 of 91)

I hate all the applause interruptions. It was certainly unnecessary -more like a Castro speech to his psycophants in the National Assembly.

I hope Congress next year behave with more gravitas; however, there were some issues I would stand up and applaud: the money to help Africa, the money to alternative fuel.
