    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

EwartLinkBolt Chicago - Historic PushMarketing

"" Ley - had given me an introduction to the Ewart Link Bolt Company of Chicago. I called on this firm, and Mr Ewart was extremely kind to me - taking me over the works and explaining their methods to me. On our returning to the office he picked up a large piece of chain, nine or ten inches wide, and told me they had just put down $10,000 worth of plant for manufacturing this. I said that I presumed there must be a big demand for such chain, if they had spent so much money in preparing to make it.

To my astonishment Mr Ewart replied that there was no demand at all.

When I expressed surprise that they should spend money without knowing whether it would produce a return or not, he replied that in his opinion there was a real necessity for the link he was proposing to make; that the public did not know that they needed it; that it was his intention to make them realise it; and that after this they would then buy the link.

He said that that was the American method of getting ahead: where you could see there was a necessity for anything, produce it at a marketable price and then take steps to make it go.

This conversation sank deeply into my mind, and - as will be seen - bore fruit later on.

Japan - as i pointed out on a thread recently, has halved it's food contribution to NK - wrt the 'kidnapped' japanese not being allowed to return to japan with their families.

No other country has assisted regarding reduced rice supply ---- leaving a gap of hungry North Koreans.

Today this point has been picked up by the USA who say that starving the NK population isn't the way to go ..... food assistance may be on it's way!

N Korea sets conditions for ending nuclear crisis

"" North Korea's ambassador to China said the standoff with the United States over Pyongayng's nuclear program could be solved through dialogue if Washington pledged not to invade, Japan's Kyodo News agency reported.

Ambassador Choe Jin-Su said in an interview two other conditions were that Washington recognised North Korean sovereignty and did not impede the North's economic development, Kyodo News said in a report from Beijing.
