    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Peace, brothers and sisters.

Join the anti-war movement, march for peace to stop Bush's mindless agression towards Iraq (and the world).

We may not survive 2 more years of Bush.

The deal - yeah Johnson what is the deal?

Wonder about the reward(s) he gains for 'muddle-threading' on the NYT and Guardian.

Of the names listed above buck/kalter/mazza will be Johnson.

Manjumicha (Jewish top dog?) may or may not be Johnson.

manjumicha1 - is Johnson i believe ... note the tone of yesterday's post.

wrcooper - is Johnson .... he had pretences re Chicago a while back - then retracted - when i suggested that Showalter call in to a the business in Chicago wrcooper/johnson said he was employed by ... he then said that he just used it as his ISP internet provider.

Johnson writes under many more monikers ... doesn't the NYT board groan under the weight of his postings?

Johnson purports to be a CIA operative - and reading the posts - one notes that he met with Showalter a few years ago

The mazza moniker rang and spoke with Showalter on nothing-much for a few hours - complained i used the mAzzA format ... that was when the guy painted himself (along with facts that just didn't check) as a 'G' town Texan ... yet following leads through took me to a 'Johnson' link.

He also put a picture of mazza up .... it was so blurred ... as to be totally visually meaningless ... but said that mazza was not real!

Johnson and i had a few exchanges in Science | Science in the News

""Ichic, are you a commie ideo-fanatic, or do just... by jorian315 - Jul 28, 02 (#17 of 774)

George to repeat ... by lchic - Jul 28, 02 (#18 of 774) ""

jorian - another Johnson moniker --- he must have fiveDozen

Putting - George Johnson NYT - give this - and more

http://www.santafe.edu/~johnson/

So Johnson gets paid - presumably by the BUSH ADMIN to be a major time-waster

If there are 'Johnson' type folks put into negotiation senarios with the Koreans/Iraqi's ... then the USA 'will' have problems.

I love this thread. There's always so much more to it than immediately meets the eye!

Commondata :

Rshow - madman or genius - that's always a grey area - but some of his work has been brilliant and always fascinating.
Showalter is a calm personality of considerable ability who knows the 'dots' that have to be worked to push academic frontiers .... as you say 'brilliant' and always interesting ... an example of one who shares ideas-knowledge-wisdom enriching and extending minds .... and possibilities.

His recent challenge has been to empower negotiators to realise that with work the uglinesses that could lead to the hell of war - can be worked though using dialogue.

A 'gut wave' of popular opinion now sweeping the world follows this thought --- all wars should be limited and not sort after.

I have worked alongside Showalter since June2000 -- and find him sincere in his hope that the world will find solutions that minimise human tragedy.

As Showalter says -- He's in the Madison phone book -- and happy to talk!
