    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Conviction - Gisterme speaks of

Conviction
A fixed or strong belief.
http://www.bartleby.com/61/75/C0617500.html

self-conviction
The act of convicting one's self, or the state of being self-convicted.

~~~~~~~~
Language evolves from the environment. Words are tools that aid and define communication.
Conviction relates to a belief system unique to varied cultures and environments.
Is the belief system local or universal?
Is he belief system current or redundant?
Is the belief system a working tool .. or a tool that works against progress?
In the legal sense the conviction is that which recognises a series of beliefs that are used by an individual in an anti-social sense, and may be deemed in need of correction.
Those trying to move a culture forward may with hindsight be convicted for futuristic beliefs by a retrograde society.
When to change convicitons?
    Gisterme (from previous postings):
    "...I love Nietzsche’s aphorism that it is not the courage of one’s convictions that matters but the courage to change one’s convictions...
Gisteme said
"That's something that we should all take to heart.
That's not easy to say but is well said by Neitsche.
However, when it comes down to actually doing it, one has to ask
what should the basis for a change of convictions?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Convictions have to be in line with those factors local to both our inner-self and outer-environments.

When the environment changes, then convictions (a belief system) has to renew itself to give us a checklist/benchmark against which we can assess factors as they come into play and have to be dealt with.

If the wider environment changes then renewal of convictions may need to be undertaken on a societal, rather than mere individual basis.

The function of convictions has to be to enable sucessful survival leading to achievement and growth.

Growth occurs within the self, locally, entrepreneurally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Convictions that 'work' may be adopted on a difused widespread basis.
