    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Don't understand you use of the term 'communism' .. which is about people running systems ... NK appears to be tyranically top down.

If NK opened up it would fill up with backpackers ... taking a look ... taking currency ... exploring a time-locked land.

What I mean by summary execution is the same afforded to the Nuremburg defendents......witnesses...written evidence...eyewitness testimony......and then execution.

Quick.........clean.........SIMPLE!!!

But what if the civillian population has been hi-jacked, is 'evil' under orders with threat of death ... then things aren't as simple as you would suggest!

the civilian population of slave laborers is one thing......military jackels sworn to Kim Jong Il are another

Leadership

Paid Hoons

Progress of nation

Evaluation of actions that best meet the needs of the people and lead them to normality

Consideration of viewpoints of neighbours

If the USA withdrew - what would South Korea - left to it's own devices do to overthrow and restore the North?

    Do nothing

    Fight and win
MY viewpoint on balance would have to be that the needs of the majority of the people - to have a regular economy, to have food and household goods, to have working-communities, to have status, to have freedom, to re-kindle friendships of split families has to take priority over misguided leadership. Normalisation soonest would be best.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

If we're to avoid fighting - we need to understand how we are to do so - in workable detail. If we're to fight and win - we need to ask how - and by what means.

We've been emphasizing weapons much too much - though I don't deny their uses - - and using information - especially true information - - much less effectively than we could - WRT both NK and some of our differences of opinion with some followers of Islam.

We're better at simulation than we used to be - in some areas - for example - our video games.

We might play some diplomatic games better than we do. I'm hopeful.

In the ways that matter to me - the ways that I can know about, I feel that Peace on Earth http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/25/opinion/25WED1.html is beautiful - and divinely inspired. It makes a point that is religious and emotional - but nutsy-boltsy, too.

"Have humans ever been able to bring this entire globe to peace at once? The answer is almost certainly not. But that answer is no deterrent to trying to do so.

People have sorted things out before.

I HEARD THE BELLS ON CHRISTMAS DAY http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/i/h/iheardtb.htm with words by Henry W. Longfellow .

MERRY CHRISTMAS.
