    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

what has now changed. There may not yet be a coherent strategy, but there is certainly a clear sense of purpose. There is bipartisan unity on the main elements of foreign policy

WAR - Opposing Congressional Voices

"Naked aggression is not the American way,"
"We were not sent to Congress to be a rubber stamp,"
"The essence of our democracy is debate."
On Gephardt - "I think he is making judgments for his own election campaign as opposed to what Democrats ought to be doing as a group here in Congress," "He is leading us in the wrong direction."
People are saying, `Where are the Democrats, where is the opposition?' "
"This attempt to foment a war is really against the best interests of America, it is against the spirit of the country, it is against the economic interests of the people,"
"The conductor might be yelling `all aboard,' but the train hasn't left the station,"
he said. "This is an attempt to start a serious debate inside the party."

On the Enemy (from Showalter post above):

Keller writes, may not turn out to be not Al Queda terrorists but "the vested-interest politics and sclerotic culture governing military affairs. ... "

Seems the Republicans in the Parliament are weak weak weak, and fail their constituents year after year, by NOT moving for 'Transparency'.

People must wonder outloud
'How is it possible to follow your parcel's journey logistically' ..
'Why is it possible to track and trace every dollar in a business system - yet not taxation expenditures'
'If the progress of production line widgets can be tracked and traced - then why not have the same transparency wrt government activity'
