    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

MD2045 rshow55 5/5/02 11:45pm . . . we can check things, and if we do - the press (and reasonable national interests) will be strengthened.

I'm proud of the work lchic and I did referenced in MD2045 rshow55 5/5/02 11:45pm . . . and think people inclined to doubt my loyalty should read it.

Sharon Cuts Short U.S. Visit After Meeting With Bush By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/international/AP-Israel-Explosion.html

If Sharon really wanted a stable peace - he'd stay and talk.

One more suicide bombing is no valid reason to leave Washington - and the entire world, watching, will know that.

Jenin isn't the only "locus of facts" being avoided by Sharon -- or the Palestinians either.

We have some new tools - and we should learn to use them. MD2045 rshow55 5/5/02 11:45pm

Perhaps some influentials in the world are learning, and it will make a difference.

It really hurts to see Bush Jr. lately trying to make sense of his confused state of mind. He seems to keep repeating "why can't my friends and enemies just do what I tell them to do?"

It is really sad.

Friedman-Indonesia

..... some top Pentagon officials are definitely pushing to let the Indonesian military make a comeback and to restore ties with the Indonesian military that were suspended after the army ran amok in East Timor in 1999. Indonesia is just beginning to try military officers involved in those killings. If there is any hope of senior army officers being held accountable for East Timor, it will certainly be lost if America signals that all it cares about now is that the new antiterrorism laws being debated by the Indonesian Parliament give the army anything it wants. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/05/08/opinion/08FRIE.html
Indonesia consists of islands .. those of the 'non-dominant culture' with Natural Resources are plundered from Jakata --- accounting for much of the boodshed-unrest.
