    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

In case anybody wonders - I take derogatory things said about me seriously. And unlike cantabbb and bluestar - I'm using my own name.

Maybe I'm off the mark. But think what an honor it would be to have it shown that I'd been able to get this much work out of hostile New York Times people. The NYT is supposed to be invincible.

You guys look pretty vincible to me. . . . . .

Stipping off the anonymous identities of the posters would be a thing worth writing home about. . . .

Not that I wouldn't prefer accomodation.

But if, in the words of bluestar23 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@3285@.f28e622/19231 I'm a "meaningless peon to NYT, Showalter.... " why shouldn't I fight. Some other peons might cheer . And if I were to win - - there might be some real consequences.

I'd rather make a deal, of course. But fighting isn't necessarily such a bad thing, either.

When I called Apcar today, he accidentally picked up the phone and actually said something. When he heard it was me, he dropped the phone in what seemed to have been panic - and then gave me a dial tone . When I called back, I was able to get his answering machine.

I'm not sure I'm entirely insignificant to Apcar, as peons go.

Why shouldn't I fight, if I can't be dealt with as a human being?

People thinking about peacemaking should ask such questions. Just for balance.

Heh...Mr. "Apcar" (if any of this nonsense is true) seems to understand Mr. Showalter only too well....

"bluestar - I'm using my own name.'

But lchic doesn't; your laughable "World Asset"; so ask her that question for once...
