    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

And if you think a moniker shields you - well - that's a question worth dealing with.

You think lchic’s moniker shields her in Australia ?

Threatening me ???

I take responsibility for everything I say and do. Other people have to, as well.

Nonsense. You’ve made numerous irresponsible statements: accusing and then withdrawing accusations on imagined IDs of several posters (cooper, almarst, gisterme, jorian, et al.). So why not cantabb !

Part of the same paranoia, fed and stoked by World Asset, lchic. What about saving thousands of lives ? “House arrest” ? Where's the evidence ? Responsibility for making such statements ?

I'm asking for something that ought to be easy.

You have been just whining about it, groveling !

Pathetic turn from “leaving gracefully” !!

Easy or not, first see if anyone REALLY owes you anything BEFORE you ask – or demand – it ! You presented NOTHING of the kind here.

And something that matters to me a great deal for entirely practical reasons. It also matters to essentially everybody else who lives in society.

Sure, it matters to you – but apparently, NOT to NYT. And, you have given NO reason yet why it should matter to others !

cantabb , if you're affiliated with the New York Times - you're putting both yourself and your organization at risk. This is something I have to fight about - and there will be a whole lot of people on my side - not only in this country, but internationally.

This work has some problems with structure - though it has some advantages. It would work just fine as pretrial discovery .

There are pretrial records more extensive than the record here

Sometimes an amazing amount gets sorted out.

"http://www.mrshowalter.net/BigDirectory.htm ( 1.25 meg) is a sequential list of links to the NYT Missile Defense Forum from its beginning, combined with sequential lists of two distinguished anonymous posters to the thread, Almarst and Gisterme. This is a list of links - which would take 259 pages to print, available for sampling, and to provide a sense of how big the corpus archived here is."

And "provide a sense" of how utterly meaningless Showalter's links are....they all just link to each other..
