    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

ultimately TRUTH outs : TRUTH has to be morally forcing : build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation

wrt Iraq i posted

'What if Saddam wins'

America (Admin & NYT-culturalMouthPiece) needs to do more - in all it's dealings - than just 'muddle through'

I can do without the NYT, too.

BUT, you're still pleading (with demands and threats), still grovelling -- and can't seem see the handwriting on the wall, and let go.

That's NOT "happy" !

But there are enough interconnections that Eliza's question

If you say ! But I was struck by the other "resemblance" you mentioned a couple of times: lchic, as Eliza ?

What belongs to me and what doesn't? has to be dealt with. I have a minimal requirement - I've stated it - and if I don't get it - I think a lot of people (not only in America - the NYT Corporation has assets in France, for example) may feel I'm justified in pursuing the matter.

Pursue it, man, pursue it with NYT ! Act on your threats, if you want. You see anybody stopping you ?

After Friday, you'll have AMPLE time.

rshow55 - 10:05am Nov 13, 2003 EST (# 17500 of 17501)

I'll be making a phone call or two before noon, EST . One to Sulzberger's office. One to Apcar's office. If I can get through. I don't expect to. But it would be nice. Right now, I'm eating breakfast. I'd be glad to get a call from anyone in the NYT organization who has a valid name they'll use with me.

Go ahead and call !

Re your breakfast : What are eating ? Bacon & eggs (sunny side up or scrambled), toast; orange juice and coffee ? Or, continental ? Muffin ? Croissant ?

Don't you think we OUGHT to know this too ?

Yes, and much better without the "Master of Muddle" !

Excellent segue, lchic !

US public is NOT all just one mind (All Aussies behind US-obedient Howard ????). With your facility with your Link machine, you still can't seem to get that.

Administration's handling is under severe scrutiny and increasing criticism.

How's Saddam going to win ? BY getting bombed out, accidentally or on target ? Iraq and Iraqi people will come out ahead eventually -- but that's NOT Saddam winning.

"Right now, I'm eating breakfast."

While typing on computer..? Showalter is dextrous...

bluestar23 - 11:05am Nov 13, 2003 EST (# 17504 of 17509)

"I can do without the NYT, too."

as in, you've discovered NYT "can" do without yourself....?

cantabb - 11:08am Nov 13, 2003 EST (# 17505 of 17509)

Am NOT so sure that NYT will survive without RShowalter & lchic [Eliza].

NYT reduced to shivering down to its core against Rshow threats and indicated reprisals : I wouldn't call it surviving without rshow55.

bluestar23 - 11:09am Nov 13, 2003 EST (# 17506 of 17509)

"I'm not asking the NYT to endorse me in any way - surely in no way beyond the respectful language you used about my board work in your letter of Oct 29'

First, Showalter "pretends" to ask for nothing... ("not...to endorse me..")....then DOES demand...("surely...in no way beyond..")

what, precisely and exactly, does Mr. Showalter want the NYT to say to him..?
