    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Would Kate or anyone know what time Friday?

So that you could 'plan' things ? [threats etc you've been 'musing' about ?]

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Yes, so I can plan.

It will be a tremendous relief to have this thread finished - so that I can summarize it - in my mind, and to other people.

Whatever I do. So I can decide what to do.

For example, I'd like to write both Sulzberger and Apcar strong, fair, accurate thank you letters.

That will be possible to do 'after the curtain has come down."

Those letters will also include a request. I'll ask that anything the NYT tells others about me - they also tell me

And express the hope that they'll understand that I'll ask people to report back to me about whatever was said, if people are willing to do that.

Your not-too-implicit 'threats' and the 'outrage' you have been 'musing' about ?

Sure, it'll be a "tremendous relief" to you. Facing critical pressure since Sept 17 is taking its toll on you & lchic. Quite understandably.

No one is preventing you from 'functioning' the way you want to -- except perhaps you and you alone.

So that's the end of NYT interest in Missile Defense, eh? Too bad, it's a large program of top national priority of the USA; you'd think they want a Forum on it.....maybe the example of Showalter has put them off it....what about that, Showalter; do you realize this might all be YOUR fault..?

"Would Kate or anyone know what time Friday?"

Tell the truth, I don't think they'll wait too long after they get to work....doubt there'll be posting on Friday....

If I had an agreement that anything the NYT tells others about me - they also tell me - basically along the lines of the tentative draft letter I dictated over Apcar's speaker phone - http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.ajQ9bQ7aXs2.2751970@.f28e622/18443 which was all statements that clarified NYT's power - but that did ask for that, I'd bow out of this forum gracefully, gratefully - and from my point of view, successfully - and the thread could go on.

That, I think, would have been a better solution - and it was consistent with what Apcar said over the phone - though somewhat more explicit.

It was a request that seems worth asking for, given some of the statements made by bluestar and others on this thread.
