    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

cantabb: and (iv) Did he ask them to mediate with a shivering in its shoes NYT ? Would be good if they could . . . . ..

rshow: I didn't get that far. But you make an interesting suggestion - and maybe a useful one. But why should it be so hard - and take such a big threat - to get a clear agreement from the NYT that…. –

True, difficult to talk to those already so scared of you to be, as I said, shivering in their shoes. “Pusil” ?

I'm doing exactly what Eisenhower and Casey asked me to do.

And, what did they ask you to do ? “Come through NYT” ? And you did that ! Wow.

What loyalty !

Thank you for the links, “Mr. Putin” or his stand-in ! Didn't know we needed yet another link-machine.

"where lies truth " It depends on a definition of "otherwise intelligent people"

It seems to lie in the eye of the beholder. Once you know what “intelligent people” are and look like.

Many consider the right calculation of a "Bottom Line" to the the "Top of intelligence".

And, your “bottom line” may not be someone’s else’s bottom line.

rshow55 - 07:51pm Nov 10, 2003 EST (# 17195 of 17216)

Maybe some headway has been made: Mission Statements: 15134-5 You mean the one you have “been asked to do.”

What’s that “some headway”? Getting this thread shut down ? On that, I agree “some headway has been made.”

bluestar23 - 08:01pm Nov 10, 2003 EST (# 17197 of 17216)

rshow55: "Lchic and I have intended for this thread to be, (or prototype) the largest bandwidth, clearest line of political-military communication that has ever existed between the US and Russia."

bluestar: "Clearest line" just might be picking up White House phone and dialling up mr. Putin...? Where has vital nation-to-nation communication been managed by Internet TalkBoards..?

“Lchic and I [rshow] have intended for this thread to be”:

Really ? Arrogating the responsibility (for this NYT thread) to yourselves [rshow/lchic] ? What Chutzpah !

What you have turned it into is a big tank (Corpus) of slop, which will be dumped out soon, as you pass out its CDs.

Meaning what ? Just words you hollowed out.

Come on Barntabb you only have 4 days left to FISK us up to 20,000 posts. Snap to it! No good coming here to relax.

That was a challenge to lchic/rshow link machines. Didn’t you get that in your veld-schoolyard-cum-barnyard? Don't you see their hard work on the thread (joined now by almarst) ? In another 150 or so todasy, lchic had 65 (and I'm not including rshow & almarst), compared to my 35. Wake up you can help too -- throw something from your barnyard/schoolyard, the end is nigh.... …

Will we be having KFC at the picnic? I'm sure kiki would enjoy that. How do Komodos go on barbecues? Ooops ... I mean AT barbecues.

Will you be bringing “muster” or “mustard” ? [Referring to your another linguistic problem, in ‘Science in the News’. To refresh your memory, see the links I gave earlier to that].

“Who made Letterman and Leno the demigogues of truth in an increasingly complex world. Neither they nor their script writers could cut the muster if they were in charge of the NYT today.” http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?1@13.aekHbS9oXfP.2655505@.f2e4e35/1658 and the following posts for comments on ‘muster’ & ‘demigogues’.
