    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

I've looked in at Showalter's efforts on Guardian to see if he's preparing a new Home for himself..but he hasn't been back there recently...is Showalter worrried about what he'll do all day long, he has NO AUDIENCE now....he is having the Rug snatched away underneath him, and I'll bet he doesn't know what to do...looks like the New York Times is NOT "negotiating" with Mr. Showalter after all, eh...?

Okay, all.

I would like to delete this forum on Friday, Nov. 14.

If that isn't enough time to save things, e-mail me at KateNYT@aol.com.

Depends on what he was trying to negotiate with NYT. Never made it clear here, and I doubt if he did anything better with them.

I didn't think NYT will see the light it had been trying not to see, and act this quickly (7-8 days after his letter). There have been many pointed references to Sulzberger (NYT) and Forum Moderators -- increasingly in recent weeks.

But surprised me most was that poster complaints were ignored for so long. What's the point of inviting comments, and ignoring them. Doesn't reflect well.

Kate:

This forum has been N/A for more than two years. The lack of moderation by Robert Showalter and LChic have set a new standard for obfuscation, frustation and downright animus!

bluestar23 - 12:25pm Nov 4, 2003 EST (# 16513 of 16536)

Oh, no! Showalter's got two more weeks almost....he must be laughing...

cantabb - 12:40pm Nov 4, 2003 EST (# 16514 of 16536)

He can unload the entire "CORPUS" 3-4 or more times till then.

Do NYT a favor, Kate. Close it earlier. Mercy-shutting. Put it out of its misery !

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Looks fine to me. Earlier closing would be fine. I feel pretty good about things - appreciate having so much time - and I'll take a nap - and then try to get my courage up to make a phone call.

I appreciate the chance I've been given to post on this thread - and some big steps have been taking to meeting requests I've made to NYT "brass."

There's been dispute that "win-win" solutions are possible. They sure are - and we need more of them. I'll be working to explain that.
