    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

ultimately TRUTH outs : TRUTH has to be morally forcing : build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation

Here's the conundrum Showalter ... how to make a mammoth momentus thread

mini and memorable ..

with just a wee echo as a concession to Cantabb.

so what were you good at ....

Things you don't appreciate, am afraid....

"TRUTH has to be morally forcing" : or enforcing, whichever convenient. "build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation": NOT jerry-build, while you wait for "truth" to come out of its "dispenser" !

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

We should move from farce and tragedy to happy endings.

That's partly a technical matter - and this thread has supplied some missing pieces - that I hope we can organize later. Without in any way diminishing emotion or art. In the sort of way C.P. Snow would have approved of.

poems cited in http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?13@@.ee7b085/193 have been deleted with the links stated, but are:

I may be "Ishmael" - and lchic may be a tad indirect, in spots - but we've both been working hard -and working together - on things "the average reader of the New York Times" is likely to find interesting. And the NYT has known it, and given us a place to be, for a long time. I appreciate that.

Showalter "and lchic may be a tad indirect, in spots"

Elle Chic only wears spots when in connective mode
