    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

This so-called "corpus" is a conglomeration of everything published that rshow-lchic wanted to accumulate, relevant to MD or not. Nothing original, just a mindless "save, file, retrieve and post & re-post (ad infintitum)" clerical skills. With active support from the "World Asset." If it's anti-American, so much the better.

Well, cantabb, that is (IMO) an accurate characterization of the finished product, but doesn't speak to why anyone would do such a thing.

Empathy has been a big word around here lately, so I'm trying to identify with Showalter. Consider feeling so repressed that THIS - a public forum graciously maintained by NYT, seems your only avenue for expression. It must be a horrible feeling, borne though it is of delusion. Certainly, forces powerful enough to enforce such exile would also be easily able to simply eliminate the annoyance, if that is what Showalter thinks he represents to "them". That this has no been done means that either he has failed to attain the status of an annoyance, or that ... could it be? ... "they" don't exist.

The existence of an external repressive force is not necessary for someone to FEEL repressed, but it is definitely useful to have something to point to if one ever hopes to overcome that feeling of repression. I suspect that's Showalter's dilemma; an inability to identify who's afflicting him - a horrible feeling for sure, but due only to the fact that the affliction, it's perpetrator and its victim are all one and the same.

I agree with you, mostly.

It's the world according to.... rshow & lchic.

Nothing to do with MD, but a way to air rshow's personal problems for some unimasginable reason here on the forum ! Continued abuse of Forum privileges extend to them.
