    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Question : why, when much of what Showalter advocates ... and at depth ... is espoused (often later) by others ... does the MD-GANG fail to give him credit.

What rshow55 says is later repeated by lchic, and what lchic says is later defended by rshow55. That's what I see, and for this I give both of you credit.

An examination of the Rotblat-Hines 'War no more' book ... will most probably have parallels with Showalter's advocation of truth, peace, stability and move away from war-toys redeploying folks into worthwhile sustainable industry ...

"Showalter's advocation of truth, peace, stability"? Anything faintly original or specific in this ? Who in the world has NOT said, or preached this -- ages before him ?

... and move away from war-toys redeploying folks into worthwhile sustainable industry ...

Unfortunately, THIS has in fact been a "fairly sustainable industry" -- demands coming from ALL over the world to countries making these toys.

Why are you guys persistant in defaming Showalter - whose Name and Number are in the Madison Telephone Directory

Laughable logic ! Criticism of public statements made is NOT "defaming." Check the difference. Even statements with supporting evidence are not immune, so why should you expect rshow55's, without any such evidence, anything better? He's offered NO evidence to support his claims and allegations, despite numerous reminders.

Some of us have been "Educating Showalter," not "defaming Showalter" ! In fact, he "defames" himself by airing his dirty laundry on a public forum, and harping on it for years now. He's the one who, to borrow your word, "defames" others --- WITHOUT any basis at all (e.g., NYT, poster-ID comments, etc).

So, what if his name and number are listed in Madison's Tel directory ? Most folks of that town are ALSO listed there.

and yet forgo opportunities to defame - let's say Rotblat - who also has a name, address, phone number [ as i listed ] ...

Same comment, as I noted above.

Can you monikered-poster-guys explain your logic ?

Where have you been, monikered-lchic ? Blind loyalty to supposedly THE only non-monikered-poster (rshow55) is NOT logic: just blind loyalty !

Another case of YOUR defense of his problems !

Much as I like Dowd's columns, she is NOT the ONLY voice, the ONLY opinion on any subject. She can hone in on a subject like laser, much like other columnists from their own perspectives. NYT and most other US newspapers feature coulmnists of opposing and other positions too.

On her 'laser' sharp opinions on a topic: This is one thing you and rshow55 can learn from it --- instead of just citing and praising her. May be she's also borrowing Showalter's ideas without giving him "credit" -- except doing it with laser sharp focus (which rshow55 and you can not seem to) ?

US Chinook military helicopter shot down West of Baghdad, this morning. About 30 people aboard.
