Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

Yes, you're right about the FAS, but the
site has so much information on it that it seemed like the
best I'd seen...
It sure is a good resource. It's heavily involved in
'outreach' and public education and other useful activities.
The Journal I mentioned is also useful (for those more
interested in technical details).

Blue's link has ''CostEffective'' third line
down ...
Also mentions "operationally effective." [right after 'cost
effective'].-

and ... is it? ["operationally effective"]
How can you tell unless you test it ? And, you can't
test it, unless you build it (hopefully -- but I doubt
it -- cost-effectively). A vicious circle, once you take that
way. And I doubt ANY system would be 100% operationally
effective, against 100% of possibilities, 100% of the time.
Nothing works that way, hence "effective."
Do we (in the US) really need it ? How badly we need to
have it ? And many other pertinent questions !
American needs and interests are NOT going to be the same
as those of Australia, South Africa, China, NK etc ! How
useful are the alternatives suggested by other countries and
their recommendations for protecting the US interests and
needs ? [btw, Are American suggestions always acceptable to
everyone else to take care of their needs/interests?]

I am waiting; and many "more" may be
secretly waiting ----for Mr. Showalter to describe his new
contacts with the New York Times as he emailed them
yesterday...
You'll wait a while. I saw West Side Story twice
today - just wasting time, I guess. But, from a distance, it
is a great series of lessons about the risks of "going off
half cocked." Maria asked Tony to stop an unstoppable,
limited fight - two people died, and Tony ended up murdering
in a fit of passion.
Maria asked Anita to give a message - and she tried - but
was hard pressed, nearly raped - and delivered a lie (
emotionally understandable in context) - - - - that caused
Tony, in a fit of passion - to get himself killed.
When emotions run high - there's a big question seldom
asked.
" Is this decision really
something to do in a hurry ? "
I'm feeling like being quiet -

What did I tell ya, bluestar ?

Take your time. "Finding truth" is tiring. More so when you
don't know "truth" in/of what !
