    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

The earth spin rate is slowing 2 msc/day as evidenced by the additon of a leap second every 500 days - James "I failed math" Nienhuis

Isn't every country only a step away from instability?

Yes, it's just the size of the steps that varies (that first one's a bitch!)

What is it that holds nations together?

Borders.

If democracy is a part of it -- then how democratic are key Nations?

Somewhat, or more or less depending on what you consider key

Where does power lie?

With the powerful

How responsible are the ones in whose hands power is mustered?

Varies from individual to individual

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

cantabb made some interesting postings last night - and Jorian did, too.

Especially these:

Me: But if, by chance, he or anybody under him with a verifiable name in the NYT organization called me - I could and would be in New York to talk Monday - or any time else at his convenience.

Cantabb - And, had you written THAT "short" "well-crafted" letter to him and called him, as you had been planning to do, you would have returned from NYC by now, after a visit to CIA, FBI, Rummy, GW, Rice and the whole gang-- and their stand-ins.

Call you for WHAT and WHY ?

What “stable closure” ? 15644 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.9jXYbh3xS1R.0@.f28e622/17357

Face-to-face hearing: With whom ? 15647 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.9jXYbh3xS1R.0@.f28e622/17360

Will answer these questions within an hour. The easiest is the last. I'd like to meet face to face, for at least a few minutes - with someone on the NYT masthead - from my perspective, Robinson or Carley might be best - before being referred "down the line" .

After a meeting - a comfortable "win-win" from everybody's perspective shouldn't take much time or be too difficult.

More later. Short responses are hard.

What about me..? I came up with the "Legion of Pacifist Hamsters" before Cantabb came up with "Concerned Concierges of Conneticut".....
