Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

How pathetic !
The issues that have just been raised about
"who commandeered whom and why" are crucial - whoever you
choose to call "the bad guy."
May be “crucial” to you – NOT MD, is it ?
They ought not to concern Sulzberger - who
is, as you people assure me (and so we agree) way too busy
to look at this thread. But if, by chance, he or anybody
under him with a verifiable name in the NYT organization
called me - I could and would be in New York to talk Monday
- or any time else at his convenience.
You assured yourself, when you kept bringing him in !
And, had you written THAT "short" "well-crafted" letter to
him and called him, as you had been planning to do, you would
have returned from NYC by now, after a visit to CIA, FBI,
Rummy, GW, Rice and the whole gang-- and their stand-ins.
Sulzberger has a decision he can make in a
few minutes – if my request is well crafted - but
background has to be there. He can refer to underlings ( if,
perchance, any NYT people look at this thread - and if any
of you have anything to do with the NYT ) for details. I
think things are working out well - and in the interest of
the New York Times - and perhaps in my interest as well.
But that’s a very big “IF” !
Does he [Sulzberger] really [have a decision to make, about
YOU]? What “decision” ? To let you continue to abuse this
Forum for your personal quest ? To shiver under your threat or
not ? To act on your “short” ‘well crafted’ letter, WHEN and
IF you do ever write one ?
I'm doing may damndest to be honorable - and
set an example that I think both I and the NYT can be proud
of.
NYT “proud of” WHAT ? Your “damndest” efforts at being
“honorable” ?
I think things are going well - and if
anybody way high up disagrees - they have only to contact
me. I think we are moving well.
Call you for WHAT and WHY ? To urge you to complete the
short, well-crafted letter ?

NYmin-Thought :
Showalter next time you go to New York,
. First drink the 'truth-syrup'
· the Arnie HULKeniser
· Don the u-pants emblazened with the word
· T - R - U - T - H
· over the tights
· Grab the Steel Skates / helmet
· Sing a chorus or two from 'Classic
· Railroad Songs, Vol. 1: Steel Rails '
· Roar down the amtrak -- [amex if virtual]
· Skate in the front door of the NYT
A word of caution 'Watch out for those Iron
Horses enroute'
“Truth Syrup” [in your flavor] comes in 12 oz cans
and 5 & 10 gallon ‘family-size’ ‘economy’ drums at your
local grocery store ! May be on sale, there. Or, use Coupons !

My ever-loving, long-suffering wife think's I'm looking
tired - so she handed me a beer and said
" Knock off and eat dinner."
which sounds right.
Why not sort this out as a newspaper might be
expected to do? 14800 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.naRUb4h9Siy.4830827@.f28e622/16511
Can't figure out how? I bet KAKUTANI could figure it
out ! 15598 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.naRUb4h9Siy.4830827@.f28e622/17311
Eichenwald might be able to do so, too. http://www.mrshowalter.net/CommendationTo_Kolata_EichwaldandNYT.htm
or an old hand line Frankel:

I'm knocking off and going to a movie. Maybe the thread
will still be around in the morning. If not, that's OK too.
I'm behind on getting a letter to a top dog - but it
doesn't seem to me to be a waste - to set out a record that
underlings, who have more time than the big boss, can look at.
I'm knocking off. Need a little time to recover - since
Bluestar and I almost agreed about something.
