    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Gracefully does not mean mangled.

Neither does imagining “mangled” ! Gracefully or otherwise. Believed to be “mangled” or NOT ?

If I'm to bow out gracefully and function - I need an accounting of who among the posters is a NYT reporter - as a minimum. Not necessarily naming names.

Who’s asking you “to bow out? ? "gracefully” or NOT ? The only person who is interfering with your ability to “function” seems to be YOU and you alone !

That, acknowledged on a single sheet of paper - signed by a NYT corporate officer - would count for a lot under many administrative circumstances. You know that very well, too.

WHY don’t you ASK NYT for it, directly ? Too rational ? Too sane ?

But if we're in a situation where your people have absolutely no regard for my welfare - then perhaps grace isn't possible. It ought to be - and if it isn't THE NEW YORK TIMES should be ashamed of itself.

Who’s “we” here ?

You mean the VERY SAME NYT you have been so overly grateful to you for the opportunity ?

Some accounting of my " debriefing " by "Roland Cook" - would be useful, too. Acknowledgement of specific names wouldn't be required.

Once again, take it up with NYT !

With honest accounting of what actually happened - without specifying "who the bad guy was" - and without naming names - we could have a resolution that would be "win-win" from the point of view of every reasonable person involved.

Postitive sum games usually depend on the willingness of the people involved to think about reciprocal needs. And consequences if those reasonable needs are not met, as well.

"Who does he think he is?" is a very good, general question to apply. To NYT people - not just to me. The analogous question applies to institutions , too.

YOUR personal problems. You need to take it up directly with NYT – NOT relevant to this MD forum.

Jorian, Ha! ... a Classic, LOL:

"Here's how you can bow out gracefully:

"Dear Forum Particpants, NYT administrators, casual readers, and of course, Mr. President;

"Over the past several years I have made a conscientious effort to utilize the resource of this forum in order to promote a better future for humanity through elucidation of problem solving methods, and clarification of the nature of problems themselves.

"At this juncture, I realize that this may not be the most effective way for me to expend such efforts, and so I wish to bow out gracefully.

"Thank you all for reading and responding to my posts. It has been a rewarding and enlightening experience and I am truly grateful for the interaction. This will be my last post here, but I can be found at the forums at The Guardian (insert url here) carrying on the good fight.

"May you all enjoy good health and success in your well intended endeavors

"Sincerely,

"Robert Showalter (insert email address here)

THERE! SEE HOW EASY THAT WAS?"

Too funny....

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

We can fight, I suppose. I feel like calling it a night - having a beer, and relaxing.

If the NYT fights from here - without at least trying to work out a win-win game - it will be shameful - and a blot on the New York Times brand.

The earth spin rate is slowing 2 msc/day as evidenced by the additon of a leap second every 500 days - James "I failed math" Nienhuis

No need to talk about conspiracies if there was a simple closure - where people admitted to things they knew to be true.

Let put a f'rexample to your "where". You mean like admitting that there are no high ranking gov officials, admin people from NYT or people "very close to" the above, posting on these threads?
