    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Correction.

I shouldn't have said "letting them flock" to other forums, but "encouraging them to flock" to others. Obviously, cantabb posts on other forums and so does lchic. Fortunately, however, they spend most of their energy here.

You notice ! However, only since Sept 17 -- NOT for years like you and other regulars.

Like I said, this forum should be retitled the "R Show Rants Forum". Then we could start up a proper Missile Defense forum. Or maybe just a forum called the "Crazies" forum for rshow55, robkettenberg, and the rest of them. The forum moderators wouldn't have to delete their posts, then, only program their software to automatically transfer any posts by an identified crazy to that forum. A message could be left on the forum where each of the crazy's posts appeared with a link to its new home in the "Crazies" forum. Moderators could devise a system of, say, three warnings to potential crazies to stay on topic, not to repost innumerable links to their past posts, not to call other posters liars, etc. After three violations, they can agree to go on the "Crazies" list to have all their posts appear on the "Crazies" forum or they can leave the NYT forums altogether. If they sign on again, and the moderators determine that they've returned under another handle, that handle will automatically be listed on the "Crazies" list.

I like it. I like it.

More rationalization of the same Rx.

Isn't keeping on "Ignore" NOT quite enough? May be you also need to whine ! This should keep you occupied.

:)

robcattleborg is my favorite poster.

he's been posting the same post for the last 2 years so you can scroll by him confidently knowing you are not missing anything.

The earth spin rate is slowing 2 msc/day as evidenced by the additon of a leap second every 500 days - James "I failed math" Nienhuis

I think NYT is going to make rottenburger a default "ignore" setting for new registrations, if they haven't done so already.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

I did some collection and summary postings today, that summarize my postings here in a more condensed, coherent form.

Psychwarfare, Casablanca -- and terror Guardian Talk - International 453-458 http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/490

Paradigm Shift .... whose getting there? Guardian Unlimited Talk Science http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7726f/1348

The entirety of these threads, fairly frequently updated, is available at http://www.mrshowalter.net/

Guardian: Psychwarfare, Casablanca . . . and terror http://www.mrshowalter.net/Psychwar1_Recent.htm

Guardian: Paradigm Shift - whose getting there? http://www.mrshowalter.net/Paradigm1_Recent.htm

Guardian: Mankind's Inhumanity to Man http://www.mrshowalter.net/MankindsInhumanity1_Recent.htm

Guardian: Detail, and the Golden Rule http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md01000s/DetailNGR.htm

Each of these Guardian threads is long, and the first three contain much identical material. But they are much more compact ( by about a factor of 20 ) than this thread. Each includes many links to this thread.

If the NYT Missile Defense thread were to shut down - the threads on http://www.mrshowalter.net/ would be modified so that the links in them would continue to connect to the information intended.

Casey's instructions seemed so sensible.

After all - in a complex case - it surely makes sense to talk to people who have discretion that can be trusted - and loyalty that can be completely trusted .

There have been certain imperfections in the execution.

Somehow, though, I feel hopeful. I'm out till tomorrow.
