    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

We could call it the "Web Forum Withdrawel Support Web Fourm Withdrawel Web Forum", WFWSWFWWF for short, bluestar. :-)

"...It's important not to downplay the sheer entertainment value of Showalter and his "World Asset.." it clogs up the thread something fierce, but..."

Standing alone, it would seem a strangley morbid form of entertainment. I'll admit that...well,...here I am. :-)

TRUTH outs ultimately : TRUTH has to be morally forcing : build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation

'' didn't see it because it had already been swept away by other "stuff", rshow, cantabb and lchic mostly ''

said Gisterme -omitting the GOOD that would most naturally prefix "stuff"

There was no accidental omission, lchic. To me it's just "stuff". That's as polite as I can be. ;-}

lchic -

"TRUTH outs ultimately : ...

Right...if "outs" means "prevails".

"TRUTH has to be morally forcing :

You and rshow keep saying that but never quite get around to expressing what you mean by "morally forcing" in any terms that make sense. If "truth prevails ultimately" then how can truth not be "morally forcing"? I'm just applying the concatenated dictionary definitions of "morally" and "forcing" as the meaning of "morally forcing" until you say it means something else.

"...build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation..."

Right.

Not bad, lchic. That's two out of three.

Semmelweis determined way back that a doctor should wash 'his' hands rather than move from patient to patient without doing so

his case for doing so was morally forcing

.. eventually .. .. .. it became accepted practise

but a paradigm shift in thinking had to occur and was a long time in happening

There's a wave of thinking throughout the world that wants an end to use of landmines.

Seeing people blown into pieces by mines -- years after warfare -- is a strong case to NOT use them anywhere on earth

Contrast the joy of a new infant against that same child or adult mercylessly maimed into disfunctionality ... it makes NO sense.

That Nixon is quoted as 'wanting' to nuke others is seen as totally irresponsible, he's seen as a man lacking understanding and humanity.

That people were subjected to nuclear blasts by the 'highest commander' in the Fifties, a person who knew the long term implications of ill health and lingering death - shows a person whose 'experiment' over-rode humanity.

-----

Take the key words used by current Presidents of the worlds two powers that have most nuclear weapons : Knowledge and Humanity

Presidents have the Knowledge to know the dangers of weapon misuse on Humanity.

Presidential Wisdom has to be a demonstrated understanding of the NEED for a peaceful world.
