    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

"It's a PERSONAL "preference" : ... may be cosy for you but does NOTHING to the forum,.."

That is true...the Forum is still wrecked by Showalter and his "World Asset" ichic.....and I cannot, so far, even get an answer from the Mods...

Russian assets are up for grabs because the oligarchs are keen to cash in on all they amassed in the huge sale - some say looting - of public of assets in post-Communist Russia. After having divided the spoils, the Russian oligarchs are now ready to convert some of those assets into hard cash.
... there are cautionary voices from those who have tangled with the Russian legal system in disputes between foreign and Russian firms.
"The legal system has not kept pace with changes in the economic system," said Grant McCrea, a partner in the New York law firm of Dewey Ballantine. "A new procedural code has eliminated some of the extreme anomalies inherited from the old Soviet system, but if you haven't changed the people, you will have problems."

CHANGE

Here is the Six Step Attitudinal Change Plan :

Step 1. Some practice so offensive that it can scarcely be discussed in public is advocated by a RESPECTED expert in a RESPECTED forum.

Step 2. At first, the public is shocked, then outraged.

Step 3. But, the VERY FACT that such a thing could be publicly debated becomes the SUBJECT of the debate.

Step 4. In the process, sheer repetition of the shocking subject under discussion gradually dulling its effect.

Step 5. People then are no longer shocked by the subject.

Step 6. No longer outraged, people begin to argue for positions to moderate the extreme; or, they accept the premise, challenging, instead, the means to ACHIEVE it.

author goes on to show how some Americans have been convinced there are aliens ... and convinced of a need for 'Star Wars' $$$$$$$$$$

What's amazing is that he keeps peddling the same Rx ("ignore" preference) that did NOT even work for him these past years.

Any one who cares to scan this Forum will see the posters (including wrcooper) who have not only participated but also encouraged the Off-topic irrelevance over the years. This includes wrcooper's repeated suggestions for a face-to-face meeting with rshow55 [in a "well-lit" Chicago bar, rshow55 preference) and the re-hash of the meeting and continuing misunderstandings, etc. Then he (wrcooper) reports on the forum how much did he regret his own decision.

Since he includes me with others in his suggested "Ignorte" list, he must NOT WANT to see the difference -- appararent to the rest.

Just admire his chutzpah !

klsanford0 nb : 'the mods' are rocking

Note how this guy tries to turn 'virtual space' and it's availabilty into the SUBJECT of this forum.

The savvy average-reader of the NYT will be amazed at his lack of familiarity with the 'virtual data base' of forums.

Well said Cantabb .... who's really beefing up this forum

and i quote :

" ... someone has taken the bull by its horn ... "

You tell me, lchic !

"TRUTH outs in the end : TRUTH has to be morally forcing : build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation" [whatever it's supposed to mean]
