    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

"But you're a believer in their ability to launch an ICBM at us? Which do you think would be easier to pull off?"

Oh, no, I didn't mean to give the impression that I think terrorist would launch a missile at the USA. I personally feel (and it's just my own view, nothing more) that the greatest threat to the USA is BM proliferation, and the accompanying warhead technology....

Quotation: Alvin Toffler

"The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn."

------

So much unlearning and relearning connected to being influenced by sloppy-media who don't check facts or seek out source information when they pander, misplacedly, to power gods.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

'Slime and Defend' By PAUL KRUGMAN http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/03/opinion/03KRUG.html

is a good piece to read in connection to today's Safire piece.

and Wishing Won't Make Star Wars So http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/03/opinion/03FRI3.html is a fine editorial.

If you search "Wishing Won't Make Star Wars So" there are a number of interesting citations - close to some interesting dialog - and details connected to all the purposes of this thread.
