    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

In re: Showalter, Lunarchic

You people should realize ....

"You people" ? How preposterous !

that you can't chase rshow and lchic away.

Who's trying to chase them away?

Asking them to focus and remain on-topic is NOT THAT. Neither is asking them to show at least a basic minimal appreciation of their posting privilege. Reminders to see that they do it is NOT chasing them away.

The NYTimes has banned Bob in the past, but he changes his handle and pops up again. The moderators have concluded that the best course of action is to let him roost on this forum, laying his rotten eggs till the the cows come home. Every once in a while, they purge the disk and let him start over.

SO ?

It serves no purpose to fight Showalter.

YOUR opinion !

Just "Ignore" him.

YOUR preference !

He says nothing terribly provocative or worth debating...ever...so let him go.

We know that. And, I assume you knew that too when you took the intiative and arranged a meeting with him and his wife in a "well-lit" Chicago bar. Then realized what a bad mistake it was ! The whole saga is still on the forum.

This is all I see nowadays, and it's a relief: This message not displayed because lchic is on your Ignore Posts list. To change your Ignore Posts list go to Preferences.) (This message not displayed because rshow55 is on your Ignore Posts list. To change your Ignore Posts list go to Preferences.) I recommend it!

YOUR preference, and you like it !

Do other posters have to share your preference ? NOT necessarily.

How "ignoring" things and issues (just because you don't like) is ever going to help anything ?

Wonder why some posters don't this to "creationists" and IDers [on 'Human origins' etc, or did NOT do it on 'CvsE' before]. Ignore a backyard, welcome weeds in abundance !

Let's get back to discussing the important issue of missile defense.

That's what I and others have been asking him to do, and I've asked him to define on what the hell he has been working so hard (with lchic, supposedly "a world asset") and to show evidence of his claims.

The way he has been running away from it, I don't think he can do it. Nor can lchic and his other supporters on his behalf -- even though some 'regulars' continue to support him and have participated in LONG exchanges with him [in all kinds of areas in which he has 'used' this forum].

BTW, I oppose the Bush plan. It's a huge waste of money.

And, it is NOT that fail-safe and not guaranteed to fully or effectively serve the purpose. A huge waste, I agree, NOT without compelling evidence. But this country is constantly dragged into doing wasteful things for one reason or the other -- while a number of critically important areas right here remain unaddressed -- to the needed extent.
