    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

'Wisdom' was once the ultimate reference yet too high a price re Missile Defence

The Secret of Wisdom.

Once there was a young woman who heard that an old wise woman had the secret of wisdom. The young woman was determined to track the old woman down. After traveling many months, the young woman found the old woman in a cave. She entered and addressed the old woman: "Old Wise Woman, I hear you have The Secret of Wisdom. Would you share it with me? The old woman looked at the youth and said, "Yes, you seem sincere.

The Secret of Wisdom is good judgment." "Good judgment, of course," said the youth, thanked her mentor, and started to leave. However, as she got to the entrance of the cave she paused, turned back and said, "Old Woman, I feel funny, but, if I may ask, how does one obtain good judgment?" "That's a good question," said the sage.

"One obtains good judgment through experience." "Experience, of course," said the young seeker, and proceeded to leave. But once again she stopped in her tracks, and humbly walked back to her mentor.

"Old Woman," said the young woman, "I feel foolish, but I have to ask: How does one obtain experience?" The old woman paused, nodded her head and then proceeded: "Now you have reached the right question. How does one obtain experience?. . .Through bad judgment!"

Whoops there goes another one - kerr plop!

A need for WISDOM :

Middle East cyclic payback suicide bombings didn't 'end' with the physical construction of a wall.

Hanan from her cave and as a SAGE of the Middle East sees the roots of the conflict set way back in time: http://www.lebanonwire.com/0308/03081316DS.asp

noting:

" Palestine has always been a pluralistic land with a multiplicity of faiths and cultures, and yet with an authenticity of identity that never denied the other. The solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict must emanate from a spirit of tolerance and sharing, not one of blind hatred and exclusion."

The WISDOM and POWER of ONE

" He is the film-maker who turned up at Kmart's headquarters in Bowling For Columbine with two young boys who'd been shot, asking if they could return the bullets still in their bodies and demanding that the store stopped selling handgun ammunition. "

We need common ground to agree or disagree clearly about anything much.

Which is why I keep asking you what is it that you think you (and your esteemed colleague, lchic) have been working on this forum for 2-plus years ? And what specifically do you think you have accomplished, in relation to the claims you have made.

I already know that you view the real purpose of MD Forum differently from what I understand from the header. The header “statement” may be what you can call a “common ground,” and it's the interpretation of which you and I disagree.

I know Cantabb may dispute the relevance of these basic pieces to this board - but there's much discussion of discourse going on here. Both are short…….

> Does Cantabb , or anybody else, have objections to the validity of these pieces - in terms of the generalizations they make.

once again, I am interested in finding out the purpose and relevance of your and of lchic, your esteemed collaborator's posts to THIS Forum. Tell us the validity of YOUR “pieces” to THIS forum.

Besides, I'd suggest that you ALSO try to follow the communication models etc., INSTEAD OF just referring/citing them one more time ! That might help the situation; I doubt anything can worsen the discourse much.

To discuss the "swirl of language" - agreement here would help.

What “swirl of language” ? What I’d like to see is: the relevance of your posts to MD forum, what you have been doing and the substantiation of your claims. What does it take you to address the questions I asked you so many times already.
