    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Cantabb: ...and you think that dialogue with Robert accoomplishes anything? WRCooper and I have been brutally hurt by Robert. I spent several hours on the phone with him and immediately after our disconnect he came at me with his sick/illogical reads of my points and positions. Cooper actually traveled to meet Robert face to face and recieved the same shabby treatment.

As long as you choose to dialogue with him you will be run hither and yon while avoiding the topic of the forum. You forget, this is not the NYTimes forum on missile defense. It is the Robert Showalter self-masturbatory forum with hand holding by Lchic!

Too bad! With the nuc programs in Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, India and China you would think that missile defense might be a germaine subject to discuss. If you haven't yet visited his website you would see the focus of his fantasizing. He can be found at the Univ of Wisconsin website.

What "dialogue" ? You can't even have a conversation, much less a rational "dialogue," unless he can focus on at least ONE aspect of an issue. I doubt he's going to focus, so any possibility of a "dialogue" with him is quite remote.

So far, I've asked him questions (still unanswred) on what he think he has been doing and what he think he has accomplished in relation to his claimsd.

I recall WRC admitted here it was a mistake. I've watched the discussion a bit.

UNLESS he can focus, which he has not been able to yet, he's not going anywhere. He's feeling the pressure to focus.

I know how extensively this Forum has been abused. Discussions here have had absolutely nothing to do with "Science" [despite the intent mentioned in the Forum header].

Sure, they are a lot of international, political and other issues but even they haven't been addressed with any coherence here.

So, as I suggested in my first post, to either move it to another apppropriate forum group or discontinue it entirely. Others may have pointed that out here and in their e-mails to NYT -- Nothing that has happened YET. But that doesn't mean nothing WILL happen.

Sorry, NOT interested. I see what I need to see here.
