    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

I would much rather beat the swords into Lunar bases and Marsoplis cities. As Spock would say, "All this warfare is ILLOGICAL"!!!

I would have hoped that the UN would be the means by which "World Peace" would be more than a catch phrase at a Ms Universe pageant! Twice in the last century the US has lead the world in adopting a mechanism for achieving the goal of world peace. These efforts have been deflected by the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Castro, Kim Il Jung, Saddam Hussein, etc, etc. Until dictators are a thing of the past we cannot achieve the human rights that are embedded in the UN Charter!

A local Talk Radio Host who specializes in Auto sales and Automotive history believes that the Internet and automobiles will cause the end of the Chinese Communist System. Being able to surf the net and drive a personal auto will democratize China. As more and more nations join us, and we can bring a end to dictatorship forms of government, (not easy) then maybe we can get on the high road to the stars. But the ABL and other DEFENSIVE systems might be in order if you don't want to use the "FRY and DIE" option!

In the real world, Bush's little junta wanted control of the oil, and that was always the reason, and it never changed. - http://www.counterpunch.org/goff09152003.html
