    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Fredmore:

" A gently staged program for ALL nations to explore what it is that people really want and then deliver it without interference in national sovereignty."

And when it is important to be sure you're right about whether "what you want" will work before going ahead - a committee approach might do the trick - with the right procedures - procedures that aren't even expensive. http://www.mrshowalter.net/ScienceInTheNewsJan4_2000.htm

We have a lot to hope and to fear - because progress is possible - with big payoffs - and big losses are possible, too. http://www.mrshowalter.net/Kline_ExtFactors.htm

TWO YEARS LATER A Rare View of 9/11, Overlooked By JAMES GLANZ http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/07/nyregion/07TAPE.html

The only videotape known to have recorded both planes on impact, and only the second image of any kind showing the first strike, has surfaced. • Audio Slide Show With Video Stills

Here's the Front Page of NYT on the Web - September 12, 2001 - showing journalism that was part of the great effort, under the leadership of Howell Raines , that won so many Pulitzer Prizes for the NYT. http://www.mrshowalter.net/NYTWebFrontPage_9_11_02.htm

Miracles can happen - and they aren't at all impossible - if people work at it.

Here's one miracle.

. Gisterme , or someone, contacts GWB, who calls Fred, who he's met - Fred calls Bob - and some negotiations get sorted out.

Well, maybe that's too much of a miracle.

Here's another miracle.

Somebody with clout at the NYT decides to e-mail me Howell Raines address or phone number - and contact Raines, suggesting that I be crucified if I'm screwing up - but intimating that it would be all right to work with me, so long as, by hook or crook, the NYT makes money, too.

Other miracles might be possible.

You never know. There are a lot of "legitimate" folks who have almost as many resources as Bount. http://www.mrshowalter.net/ArmsNtheMan.htm . So a lot can happen.

I feel like posting great pieces on altruism

http://www.mrshowalter.net/OfAltruismHeroismNEvolution'sGifts.htm

and especially

http://www.mrshowalter.net/UrgeToPunishCheatsNotJustHumanButSelfless.htm

Also a wonderful piece, In the Crowd's Frenzy - by Natalie Angier - with a beautiful image. http://www.mrshowalter.net/IntheCrowd'sFrenzy.htm

People go "round and round" - but sometimes - though not so often - sensible things converge.

"...I can only imagine your consternation after visiting PostsBy_Gisterme.htm at Robert's site. I'd be pretty creeped out too..."

Don't worry, jorian. I already know what I've said. I won't go there. :-) It does sound kinda' creepy though.
