Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a

initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

I think almarst has made brilliant and very
important contributions.
Finding out details about "bbback" and some of the other
posters would be interesting, too.
Much can be questioned about things said on this thread.
But the postings, as a corpus, are solidly there - and plainly
interconnected.
Sometimes there's no alternative to power - and hard work.
If somebody wanted to hire a detective - and sort out "leads"
on this thread - that might do great good.
