Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

'' Indonesian forces were yesterday accused of massacring
civilians during a raid against separatist guerillas in Aceh
province on Monday. The 18 killings, which included the
reported shooting at point-blank range of two 12-year-old
boys, happened during dawn raids in four villages in Bireuen
district, villagers alleged.

.... the leader of the opposition in Zimbabwe was currently
on trial for treason based on English law.
Mr Robertson was opposing an attempt by the attorney
general, Lord Goldsmith, to halt the newspaper's challenge to
the 1848 Treason Felony Act, which makes it a criminal
offence, punishable by life imprisonment, to advocate
abolition of the monarchy in print, even by peaceful means.
Lord Goldsmith is appealing to the House of Lords against a
ruling by three appeal court judges last year that the paper
should be allowed to argue its case in the high court for a
reinterpretation of the Treason Felony Act in the light of
human rights law. Though last used in 1883, the act remains on
the statute book.
The Guardian's challenge to the act followed the launch of
its campaign in 2000 for the establishment of a republic by
peaceful means in the UK.

truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have
done and worked for on this thread.
I care about lchic's postings - they're very good.
Lchic (in older postings, lunarchick) makes postings that
very often predate articles in the NYT and other media. She's
a leader. Also one of the first rate minds around.
Few people anywhere condense and summarize as well as she -
or see so many good connections.
Yesterday I made some postings - from 11846-11850 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.64dYapV0b3D.1332202@.f28e622/13460
that ought to matter to people who are proud to read (or write
in) the New York Times. I appreciated lchic's excellent
following question:

Showalter - when Casey said 'come in
throught the NYT ... did he give you a picture of the 'back
door' or 'the front' .. if the latter does it have a brass
knocker with a komodo dragon on it?
Casey and I had a very high opinion of the New York Times -
and didn't expect some problems that have happened.
11623 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.64dYapV0b3D.1332202@.f28e622/13231
- - I want to think carefully, and answer Lchic's question
well.
