    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Showalter - when Casey said 'come in throught the NYT ... did he give you a picture of the 'back door' or 'the front' .. if the latter does it have a brass knocker with a komodo dragon on it?

How Saddam 'ran' Iraq .... we've all read recent stories about how he controlled THE PARTY and how that controlled THE PEOPLE ... and how embedded in all systems and institutions it was ....

Orwell's 1984 -

  • 'BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU !
  • - was about similar control mechanisms.

Following this thread, when I've referred to 'THE POSTER' ... i presume the operative(s) behind the non-contributary monikers are Big Brother -- embedded in the NYT.

I trawled the term 'de-industrialisation' wrt Mulgabe and Africa ...

We saw the word and implication of 'Taliban' and 'Fundamentalist Muslim' ....

The US has it's 'Fundamentalist' supposed Christians

Somehow optimism is inbuilt .... generally people believe that there's progress and progression ... that things will 'turn out good - for the best'

    But does that happen unaided?

Or for things to be good, better, vastly improved ... do people have to work at it? Put their shoulder to the wheel -- Expend mental and physical energy?

    They do!

A question of concern seems to be ... if the 'leaders' of the advanced world & USA did have national and global perceptions of planning -- of doing the necessary things that would shape nations, encourage process, empower people .... whereas today they don't know or have the political strategies to measure their actions and progress against ... then .. the question to ask is

    What's gone wrong?

    Why?

How can progress be put back on track?

How can those 'dragons' be shoo-ed away from government and institutional doorways to enable the fast-tracking of best and when found 'unique' solutions to better enable the world.

    Misuse of language - Mastermind

People tire of hearing that a particular 'terrorist'

Masterminded the bombing -- that sensely destroyed hundreds of lives

    What term/phrase should be used?

. "I know that America doesn't look like that," Mr. von Trier said, "but I also know that America does look like that."
