Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

"" Economists described the news from Germany as shocking
and, taken with figures from Italy and the Netherlands,
pointed to stagnation in the 12-member eurozone.

... "It's hard to say for certain, but we could see flat
growth in the eurozone," Dirk Schumacher, an economist at
Goldman Sachs, told Reuters. Hopes of recovery in the eurozone
have faded as business and consumer confidence surveys
indicate little evidence of a "Baghdad bounce" in sentiment
after the end of the Iraq war.
At a press conference on the release of its inflation
report, Bank of England officials expressed their puzzlement
at economic sluggishness in the eurozone. ""

France Claims U.S. Is Engaging in Disinformation
Campaign By BRIAN KNOWLTON International Herald Tribune http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/15/international/middleeast/15CND-DIPLO.html
includes this:
"The French made their complaint in a letter
from Ambassador Jean-David Levitte that was sent to the
White House, the State Department and the Congress. In
addition to the letter, which was first reported by the
Washington Post, the Foreign Ministry in Paris took an
unusual step of its own, instructing French diplomats to
monitor the American news media for signs of orchestrated
anti-French disinformation.
"We have decided to count the untrue
accusations which have appeared in the U.S. press and which
have deeply shocked the French," said a Foreign Ministry
spokeswoman, Marie Masdupuy, according to a report by
Reuters.
If nation states actually "decided to count" - and insisted
on the truth - we'd live in a much safer world.

It seems that world economies aren't responding to the
tinkering of bankers.
Nations might consider:
1) Important projects and infrastructure
2) Education and Training to fulfil goals
3) Dealing with redundancy - thinking | process
4) Examine the NEEDS of their people
5) Developing alliances
6) Incrementally Improving standards
7) Working towards 'their' longer term visions

If a nation state actually took an interest, it might then
be possible to count the deceptions and mistakes
representatives of the administration have made about missile
defense on this thread.

Basic procedural patterns in http://www.mrshowalter.net/ScienceInTheNewsJan4_2000.htm
could be institutionalized and handled by the UN, or nation
states besides the United States - and it would be a good
thing if they were.

The USA is the 'first' as in 'biggest' as in 'most
important' trading power with France, and ranks in the top
five with many, many, countries in the world.
France now realises that it IS important to have a good
working relationship with the USA -- for the sake of their
economy!
