    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

If Nations went back to having a known NATIONAL PLAN ... would that assist people to have understanding of

where they were

where they are

where they will be

in five, ten, twenty years time
If there's a plan - a vision, a known future - then people may begin to understand the journey they are a part of .... providing there is a part for them to play!

Were there a GLOBAL PLAN ... then perhaps the world could work as one to solve some of the major deficits ... how can the GLOBE work to get everybody up and running, fed, clothed, fuelled, gainfully employed, altruistically satiated,

----

Fred -- did you get the 'shed' built (?) --- any comments on improving the globe?

Has Alex anything to offer to 'make' the world a better place?

Lchic ...

'Any comments on improving the globe? '

Since you asked ...

I think that would be a KYOTO ALTERNATIVE ENERGY PROTOCOL.

An effective Kyoto Alternative Energy protocol would link all countries:

1. In a 10 year plan

2. With countries providing funds on a percentage of GDP basis ... something suitable but less than 1% initially.

3. For an international research and implementation program for:

A. Converting one major power station to dry rock geothermal for all cities over 1 million people

B. A multinational scientific centre for Developing and implementing Thermoelectric fabrics (eg polythiophene) for urban and agricultural low level power applications (lights, appliances, air conditioning etc).

C. Developing space based solar collectors and microwave transmission of power from space

D. Terminating every stormwater and major farm runoff in an engineered wetland.

This Kyoto Alternative Energy protocol would be profit generating, whilst producing clean, sustainable electric power for all people and nations. It would also generate cooperation and potential for peace among nations.

As for the current CO2 limiting treaty. Well, this has already generated mistrust among nations, downgrades profits in developed countries and doesn't focus on alternative power sources to fossil fuels.

It won't happen overnight .... but .... it WILL happen.

We have nowhere else to go except my shed!
