    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Lchic,

You should write notes to those "sponsors" of Ro_tten's website and let them know how they tarnish themselves by association. I'm sure that once they start threatening to stop supporting Ro_tten, he'll be playing elsewhere in a hurry.

Rummy congratulated the Iraqi's as they enjoyed their new found freedom, looting public buildings in Iraqi cities.

The 'looting' mindset now includes stealing water pumps --- preventing clean water reaching needy people.

Cholera -- Transmission

Cholera is spread by contaminated water and food. Sudden large outbreaks are usually caused by a contaminated water supply.

Cholera -- Treatment

When cholera occurs in an unprepared community, case-fatality rates may be as high as 50% -- usually because there are no facilities for treatment, or because treatment is given too late.

Epidemic Control and Preventive Measures

When cholera appears in a community it is essential to ensure three things: hygienic disposal of human faeces, an adequate supply of safe drinking water, and good food hygiene.
