Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

The deceptions of the Iraqis are "fantasy land."
U.S. Officials Believe Hussein's Son Qusay Is Still
Alive By BERNARD WEINRAUB http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/07/international/worldspecial/07CND-SON.html
I've had a few questions, in spots, about Bush
administration veracity. People much superior to me (Krugman,
for example) have also had questions. I think those questions
have been good ones.
And there would be embarrassments (and improvements)
in Bush administration performance if there were many fewer
reasons for such questions.
And major international advantatages.
Because the level of delusion and deception in radical
Islam, in Iran, and in N. Korea is much higher than the
level that occurs in the Bush administration. Which is often
shameful enough.
If the Bush administration cut the degree of deception
down, there'd be red faces. Small scandals. Big adjustments.
Trillion dollar errors avoided. But the show would go on.
If radical Islam, or Iran, or N. Korea had to significantly
cut their level of deception - they'd cease to be the
noxious, muddled menaces that they are. Might even have to
become decent operations.
Lies are expensive. And for strategic reasons - they are
relatively particularly expensive for Americans.
Sometimes, it seems the Bush administration knows that. I'm
glad.
Other times, they don't. That makes me un-glad.

Jorain 319: Cool!
I know this is anethema but there is a
website:WWW.freerepublic.com where some of the pictures and
reporting you wouldn't see at the NYTimes is posted. It's
conservative so be careful. I know that Robert, Alum and
lchicarino would never go there. There is one link where a
picture of a young Iraqi child is waving an American Flag!
My heart goes out to the Iraqi and may their freedom be an
example for the whole region.
