Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

George W. Bush has lost the war in Iraq
Cnanneling Saddam again, alarmst? You and he seem to be the
only ones who think so.
Maybe laying off Al-Guardian would be helpful...

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click
"rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for
on this thread.
The world could easily end, and it seems to me to be almost
a wonder it hasn't already (in 1962, and at some other times,
as well - for instance, the time described in this sermon
http://www.wisc.edu/rshowalt/sermon.html
).
It could easily end soon - - a lot of people are
angry - none too rational - - and millions of them are Russian
citizens.
There are plenty of things that the Bush administration is
very wrong about. The administration is often careful -
and might well be careful more often.
Sometimes there has to be a fight.
More often, ways have to be found to establish mutual
sympathy, and shared space. Sometimes, most especially, when
it is difficult.

"If you support the idea that Saddam is a "hero" - or have
much respect for people who do"
I don't think I ever gave a reason for such claim.
I always stated that Saddam is one of the worst things
happend to Iraq. Primerely, as I see it, for his failor to
understand the real motives of guaiding hand of US in
Iran-Iraq war. Not to mention his brutal (but by no means
worst in Arab/Muslim World) regime.
Several times I tried (apparently unsuccessfull) to point
out to historical analogies such as Stalin during WWII. Take
it as reminder, if forgotten.
Should we "thank" Hitler for making Stalin a HERO for
the Soviet people?

Rshow to Almarst - The message that you're
unhappy is well conveyed. But a degree of incoherence that can
never work well is also being conveyed. If you support the
idea that Saddam is a "hero" - or have much respect for people
who do - don't you see what a weak and disreputable position
that is?
Rshow, don't you see what a disreputable criticism that is?
Almarst has certainly been pointing out that Saddam has been
made a hero. That is an indisputable truth. Fractured
alliances, a sidelined UN and a radicalised Middle East are
also indisputable truths.
A small cabal of neoconservative Christian fundamentalists
is in charge of the most powerful military force there ever
was and are now rampaging through the world murdering Muslim
women and children. Are you aware of the hatred that now
regularly emanates from "The Land of the Free" from just about
every source? Are you aware of how tightly the administration
has its propoganda screwed down and how they're aided and
abetted by every major network. Peter Arnett? What was all
that about and what message does that send to every other
serious commentator? His boss described him as īnauseatingī
for saying that the war hadnīt gone exactly according to plan.
Donīt you find that attitude nauseating and donīt you find
that un-American attitude everywhere?
There are a couple of morons on this thread that have
bought into everything Fox News spues out. And they
regurgitate the same rubbish with the intense arrogance that
is widely understood to be "hallmark US". We are seeing a
"Nazification" of the US, thatīs no exaggeration, this is a
dangerous time. We are seeing a US that cannot recognise
anotherīs point of view. Thatīs something you should be
fighting, rshow, rather than using than the same disreputable
tactics as your political masters.

(that would be "spews") And there are couple who eagerly
devour everything Al-Guardian prints. Of course, Herr
