    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

"...My thought processes are similar to your own, but I never would have imagined I was channeling. It may have given me some ideas!"

Perhaps we're from the same tree...and that I'd never considered that I might be channeling was the point for me!

However, I really don't think we need to channel to have our minds work like that. The idea makes me wonder if the whole concept of "channeling" is just a way of putting a handle on native creativity for the purpose of packaging it for sale. Sure! If I can be convinced that I need to channel to do some creative thinking then perhaps I'd be willing to pay a few bucks to learn to do it. Sounds like a market to me. :-)

Somehow I think that reading all the books in the world about channeling wouldn't make much difference for a person who has little native creativity or imagination. Maybe my faith is just weak in that department.

"...did mention that the CIA was looking at Babylonian history in an effort to discover possible tactics that Saddam might use to entrap Coalition forces..."

Couldn't hurt to know what was done on that same terrain in days of old. We'd surely feel stupid if we got snookered by some ancient trick, don't you think?

"...Sustainable energy, order, low entropy , self esteem and decreased evil deeds are all the one thermodynamic entity..."

Not quite sure just how I'd apply the concept of good vs evil to a thermodynamic problem. It would have to be a fairly subjective application. What units would one use? However, I do agree that sustainability, order and efficiency are surely characteristics that could be measures of the quality of a society.

I'm all for an all-out alternative energy effort too.

The 'media' and their coverage of events is under discussion ....

seems there are a thousand 'takes'

some put into intelligible frameworks

other aspects 'stand alone' - in technicolour - with 'sound blasts'

The Media are asking themselves - how are we doing?

---------

Here and there they fail to follow conventions and rules.
