    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Bush's 3 Bogus Reasons for War on Iraq - http://news.pacificnews.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=95dbf53f9e3fdb9c4914298f20b91265

"Other motives must be at work. Control of Iraq could give the United States de facto control over the Persian Gulf area and two-thirds of the world's oil -- an unrivaled prize in the historic human struggle for power and wealth."

Behind a Game of Make-Believe, U.S. Oil Plan Looks to Sudan, Libya, Chad - http://news.pacificnews.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=637156ff41b6aa471a19bff3f6334768

American policymakers must consider not only the immediate consequences of war on Iraq, but also the long-term consequences for the Gulf region and the world as a whole. Whatever the attractions of removing Hussein and securing a U.S. foothold in Iraq, do we really want to ignite a new military competition in the greater Gulf area and face years -- perhaps decades -- of intensified great-power rivalry?

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion but not his own facts.

almarst2003 - 11:41am Mar 20, 2003 - "US and Britain trumped the UN Charter and the will of at least 80% of the World population."

At least 80% of the world population? Really? Who took the global poll to arrive at such a figure? Listen, alarmist2000, there are plenty of actual events taking place which you can voice opposition to without resorting to making stuff up.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Psychwarfare, Casablanca -- and terror #391 http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/424 referred to what was, for a time, the lead editorial for today:

The Era of Preventive War http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/20/opinion/20THU1.html

The doctrine of preventive war offers carte blanche to use military might against hypothetical threats before all other avenues are exhausted.

Here is the text of that fine editorial (which was replaced by another very good one.) http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/425

If I made staff up, how would you call the declarations of Bush-Blair Governments? A Neo-Bible?

I might be wrong a bit. Probably not by much. Surely closer to facts then BB-produced Neo-Bubble.
