    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

As an undergraduate, recruited to try to sort out some essential questions in mathematics (on which the survival of the nation arguably did depend) and some problems with discourse practices (including problems with arguments that go out of control, that take on a life of their own, and make for wars) I was carefully taught a technique, probably as old as military forces, that the Nazis actually set out in training manuals that I read. . . .

A tradition of deception continues, in part because what has been done has not been admitted, and perhaps, in the view of many, cannot be admitted.

That is very dangerous now.

It shouldn't be tolerated in the United States, but it is being tolerated, even celebrated.

I don't think world leaders should continue to tolerate it.

There is too much at stake.

rshowalter - (#9333) You ask what can be done? Firstly our governments must stop scoring so many own goals that is just increasing the terrorists ability to win hearts and minds?

You went on to say "The United States has to move in ways that make the situation better, not make them worse, and denying people's humanity, dealing with them with contempt, doesn't help." I could not agree more. Furthermore is it not time that the UN food aid programme to nearly 6 million Afghani’s is started again! What battle is won denying them humanity moreover to starve these people to death is just giving credence to the teachings of the likes of OBL?

To capture OBL the US + will have to forget the ‘so called’ Hi-Tec such as cruise missiles and battle fleets its now time for the less conventional methods? More importantly its time for real time intelligence!

You say "He is already popular with many millions of people." popularity does not equal adoration? The art of war now is not to turn OBL or allow him to turn himself into a God! God like OBL becomes the millions.....and the millions he?

Dawn's right. We need to "change the game."

We do need a "war on terrorism."

One that the great majority of people in the world can "sign on" to.

A war on all kinds of terrorism.

Almarst has spoken, and made citations, working convincingly, eloquently, and over a long time, to make that point.

I wish the search engine was reinstated, so that it would be easier for people to find what he's said -- so clearly, in so many ways - - making points that Americans should deal with.

Bush is an idiot.

I guess if we bomb enough people, everyone left will then like us.

A lot of people mourn with us. But something like half a million people, mostly children, have died in Iraq because of sanctions.

Don't you expect that people mourn for them?

We need to make the world better, not worse.

. . . . .

For very practical reasons.
