    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

I've often wondered if they were criminally insane - - - but that's just evidence of a "paradigm conflict" -- and I might, after all, be wrong.

But I'm not alone in my concerns. And somebody's wrong - -- on matters of life and death.

I listened to Richard Perle on TV today, as well, and was unimpressed by his stances, and the fact that a President of the United States seems to trust him.

Richard Perle .... his eminence hasn't captured the world - never heard of the guy - who is he?

Reading Pilger, i noted his statement re William CASEY ... the CIA running government during the time of Regan.

Perhaps this was a necessity. Wasn't the President brain injured. Did Casey a job -- how did he fare?

He's one many academics that the far right wing has endowed for a lifetime -- a superb way to subvert the academy, as it is. Insofar as I've paid attention to him, my impression is that he can be counted on to find excuses for any agressive conduct whatsoever, just so long as it is the United States that does it.

His background, and manner of endowment, is not very different from the endowment of Condoleezza Rice .

In the 30's it was amazing how easily the NAZI's could get ornate, eloquent, academic support. All they had to do was pay for it. The patterns of right wing support for academicians here in the US look much the same, and I don't personally think there's any accident about that.

Recalling ... wasn't the Regan problem one of excessive expenditure, monitarism, Regan_Thatcherite economics .. deference to the right ... failure to have social issues as policy.

Who is the current Casey equivalent in the Washington scene?

I'm not sure there's anybody in the administration as good as Casey, in some crucial ways.

My background is unusual. It is a source of both insight and difficulties for myself and people who have to deal with me.

Writings connecting me to Bill Casey:

My technical background and orientation:

I'm trying, with enormous and distinguished help from Dawn Riley, within the limits of my strength and resources, to get some facts checked.

Minds are opening to the possiblility that the US may be fallible. Outside the US, and in America, as well. I take that as a good sign, for the sake of the world, and the United States itself. . . . . . Pollution deal leaves US cold by Charles Clover in Bonn http://portal.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2001/07/24/wkyot24.xml

" Margot Wallstrom, the European environment commissioner, said: "We can go home and look our children in the eyes. Something has changed in the balance of power between the United States and the EU."

The administration is doing and saying some crazy, inconsistent things. In times of paradigm crisis, that sort of thing happens, and can be a healthy sign. . . . MD6012-3 rshowalter 6/25/01 4:04pm

In times where basic ideas have to be rethought - a crucial stage occurs when a group of people organize who do not believe the old view.

" The head of the American delegation, Paula Dobriansky, was booed by ministers and officials when she said: "The Bush administration takes the issue of climate change very seriously and we will not abdicate our responsibilities."

Perhaps a time is coming where it will be possible to get some key things checked. A tragedy has occurred, which ought to make people want right answers.

Our safety depends on them.
